Super Bowl blackout quickly spawns social ads & parody Twitter accounts —
The 2013 Super Bowl will be known for having a record-breaking kick return play, a half-hour game delay, and some quick thinking social media users.
For those not watching, half the lights in the New Orleans dome went out, which caused officials to pause the game play while waiting for the lights to return.
In that time, delicious Nabisco cookie brand Oreo took to Twitter with a witty advertising image telling people you can still “dunk” your cookies into milk when its dark out. This is actually an awesome move for the company, and one that probably netted them lots of attention during an otherwise time period of dead air. Washing detergent maker Tide was also on its A-game during the delay, producing its own quick social ad about the blackout.
And at least one person was on their game and had the foresight to create a Twitter account for @SuperbowlLights, and began tweeting things like “No power, but still tweeting. Ya’ll mad?” (More below.)
