One of the last remaining vestiges from the original bubble closed it’s doors this week. Business 2.0, the darling magazine of the internet dot com era says “good night and good speed” with it’s final edition in September. B2.0 was one of my favorite reads, I was never a big fan of Red Herring or Industry Standard so I’m kinda bummed out. As on of the 600,000 subscribers, I guess Conde Nast will be hoping I move over to Fortune magazine, but thats not going to happen. I’ll stick with Fast Company, Rolling Stone and The Economist to stay upto date from now on. Arriva Derche B2.
Like many other print periodicals, Business 2.0 has been hurt by a shift of advertising to the Internet as consumers spend more of their time surfing the Web and less reading magazines and newspapers. As Business 2.0’s revenue shriveled, Time — part of Time Warner Inc. — had been seeking buyers for the magazine. Dissatisfied with the offers it received in recent weeks, Time decided pull the plug and transfer some of the 9-year-old magazine’s top employees to the company’s main business title, Fortune.
“We looked for the best scenario for Business 2.0 — one that would nurture the spirit of the brand’s unique coverage and reporting,” said Time spokeswoman Danielle Perissi. Business 2.0’s final issue is scheduled to hit the newsstands this month.

The Internet People video is wonderful. Wonderful and incredibly scary. I love the fact that internet humor and video has come along way since the All Your Base phenom of 2001, however it’s scary to see how many of the memes mentioned or lampooned in the video that I (and you) remember… Probably 90%. I think it should be renamed Internet Life, since most of us spend a great deal of time on the net. Scary stuff dudes. For those not familiar with the Internet People video, I’ve embedded it after the jump - along with links to most of the memes from the video - not that I put in the time, I lifted the list from someone else - kudos to the OP.
And here’s a full on list of most of the Internet People references…

Gotta love Nokia. After years of seeing their market share crumble (although they are still the largest cell phone manufacturer in the whole-wide world), they went straight after Apple on Wednesday with a ballsy Google Adwords campaign targetting visitors who were searching for the “iPhone Price Reduction” term. Trying to get potential iPhone users to head over to their newly launched MOSH site, the Nokia marketing eggheads quickly wrote the following ad: Sorry, Early Adopters, “iPhone drops $200. Salvage yours with free content at MOSH”. Personally, I think it’s great to see Nokia go directly for the throat, however, Apple, the masters at marketing quickly responded with their own Adwords campaign saying “Welcome Late Adopters!” HA! This reminds me of the old IBM vs. Apple ad campaigns of the early 80s… Welcome Nokia, Seriously!
BTW, my wife picked up the 8gig iPhone on opening day, and we’re not mad about the new price structure at all - way to go Apple - so much so that I bought 4gig phone on Wed for $299…. Man I love my iPhone!

Where were you when you heard the news? He’s not quite as famous as JFK, but Antony H Wilson, aka “Tony” or Mr Manchester (blurgh) died a couple of weeks back and the Manchester landscape will never be the same. Not that he’d want it to remain the same, as the co-founder of Factory, the company that brought us Joy Division, New Order, The Happy Mondays and of course A Certain Ratio, and the co-owner of FAC51, quite possibly the most important club in the world during it’s peak years 88-92, Tony Wilson not only embraced change, but created change at every opportunity. Although he generated a great deal of revenue for Factory (only to be sucked up by The Hacienda), he remained, for the most part, a pretty regular guy without the trappings of wealth, probably due to the fact that he didnt have a great deal of wealth. He’ll be missed.
