Stop Downloading the Interweb - It’s Full

Paris Hilton - The Download QueenA new report from Deloitte claims the internet will slow down to a crawl this year (we’re talking I-25 or the M25 speed) due to the rather large explosion of videos and streaming media from the likes of YouTube, GoogleVideo and EngineeringTV. With the StarWars Kid and Paris Hilton doing their very best to encourage every man and his dog to download 4 minutes of entertainment - much to the annoyance of Fox, Viacom and NBC - (whose numbers are going down like a cheap hooker) it looks like we’ll see the end of the world before the icebergs melt, the rain forrest disappear or we find Bin Laden. I digress, here’s the scoop from the incredibly clever chaps at Deloitte…

The Ad Generator: Remixing Images and Words

Ad Generator - who needs ad agencies?Check out the Ad Generator - a pretty cool site exploring how advertising uses and manipulates language. Words and semantic structures from real corporate slogans are remixed and randomized to generate invented slogans. These slogans are then paired with related images from Flickr, thereby generating fake advertisements on the fly. By remixing corporate slogans, the site owner shows how the media generated language of advertising is clever and yet 100% meaningless in that these ideas have no relationship to the products being sold.

Pandora - Ian BrownEvery man and his dog has heard of the Human Genome project, but let me push another genome project into your little bookmark list - Pandora - the Music Genome project. Visitors begin by entering a song or artist that they enjoy, and Pandora responds by playing selections that it thinks are musically similar. Vistors can then provide feedback on the individual song choices with a thumbs up or down - which Pandora then uses and takes into account for future music selections. Over 400 different musical aspects are considered when selecting the next song.

Armed & Famous: Celeb TV Gets Dangerous

armed and dangerousNow the world is done with Jerry Springer and over the 24/7 monitoring of celebs homes (Nick & Jessica, The Osbournes, Travis from Blink182 etc, etc) CBS are, er, pushing the boat out further with the launch of Armed & Famous. Armed, for sure - famous, well, if you call Jack Osbourne and La Toya Jackson famous, then I guess so. I’m sure this show will be like a train wreck, ugly, sad, dangerous and yet compelling.

iPhone Photos Images and iPhone Interface - OMG!

iphone iconsThe worlds worst kept secret has finally been unleashed onto a suspecting public! For $499 and $599 you could be the proud owner of an Apple iPhone, providing Cingular is your network of choice (yeah - works for me!). It’s not cheap, but damn, the iPhone is pretty. Steve Jobs mesmorized the audience at MacWorld with the user interface, the best touch screen ever created, the stylish hardware and of course, the iTunes interface. Plenty more images after the jump of the iPhone. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these bad-boys - guess I’ll be saying G’bye to my trusty Sony W600i…
